International Focus 2024

“In its fifth edition, Racconti per Ricominciare Theatre Festival proposes two different performances based international contemporary dramaturgy thanks to the virtuous collaboration with International Institutions, namely the Delegation of Quebec in Rome, the Centre Des Auteurs Dramatique du Quebec et du Canada and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Rome.

Different cultures that enrich the festival with narratives of great quality and extraordinary sensitivity.
Regarding the promotion and diffusion of Québec culture, we created a performance based on eight short stories taken from”Chaque automne j’ai envie de mourir” by Véronique Côté and Steve Gagnon, a collection of short stories created in 2009 for the Carrefour International du Théâtre, held in Quebec City. We will performe them in Italian and in a site-specific theatre format in the frame of the 18th-century Noble Villa Bruno, San Giorgio a Cremano (Naples). This ancient Villa hosts an immense and sinuous garden and was the headquarter of the Royal Foundry managed by Francesco Rigetti, the trusted founder of the great Italian sculptor Antonio Canova.

Regarding the promotion and diffusion of Austrian culture, our choice fell on an author of great importance and prestige who has received many international awards: Christoph Ransmayr with his “Atlas of an Anxious Man,” a collection of seventy short stories in which the sense of humanity is pictured under different real and existential geographies. A powerful, visionary literary work, built on characters and images with which any of us can identify, in all latitudes. From this work, we extracted four highly evocative stories, which will be performed in a fabulous place, namely the Royal Palace of Portici, the historical residence built by the King of Naples, Charles III of Bourbon, starting from 1738 and destined to become his official residence.”
